Tips for success with the viral ‘no spend challenge’ to help save you money
NEW YORK (WABC) — Most of us are trying to save money, but it’s so hard!
However, a viral trend can make it easier.
It’s called the No Spend Challenge and it’s been taken down.
Instead of making you buy things, influencers are encouraging you not to spend anything.
Some people are doing this for a whole year, imagine, or a month a week, even daring each other to spend a day.
The challenge is to commit to not spending money on anything new and to stop unnecessary spending.
A growing number of participants are sharing how they set their own rules.
Of course, you have to pay your bills like your phone, utility rent, etc.
Next, make a tailored list of what you won’t spend your money on, such as no new clothes, no new makeup or shoes.
Some are taking on the challenge of saying no to coffee or restaurants and committing to eating alone at home.
One woman said she saved $200 a week just by not eating out.
There are free downloadable trackers to help you on your journey.

Start with a day and color it green if you go the whole day without spending money.
No Apple Pay, no Amazon, no shopping online from your phone and no going to stores, then mark it red for the days you spend.
Experts say this reward system is a good visual, especially for families and children to compete with each other.
Tips for success include: Start small and start your own or your child’s closets. Pull everything out. When it comes to makeup and skin care, try to use up what you have first before buying anything new.
Shop your closet!
You can resell, recycle or use ThredUp to sell the clothes, shoes and accessories you no longer want.
Depop, Postmark, there are a number of websites that all work a little differently and some will collect your items or send you a bag to ship them.
They will be evaluated, you will receive a rating that you can accept or reject.
Turn your closet into cash.
Some of the sites have you post your item and you sell it to the highest bidder and then ship it to your buyer.
Some tips on these sites is the more you list, and the more quality, design items you show, the better.
Buyers want to see that you have bought and sold a lot with good customer reviews.
But it’s a great way to get free cash for things that are just gathering dust in a drawer.
